The Residence Hotel Aspen is the longest-operating small business in the City of Aspen, with a history spanning more than 130 years. Set within a building that has long been part of the Aspen community, the hotel offers a boutique experience defined by history, character, and a deep connection to place. Every space reflects the building’s past, thoughtfully preserved for guests seeking an authentic Aspen stay.

Boutique Suites Designed for Space, Comfort, and Flexibility

The Residence Hotel opened its doors to guests in 1996 after being aesthetically curated by long-time Aspen native Terry Butler. Since taking over the hotel, owners Susan and Simon have continued to elevate the guest experience through thoughtful upgrades and refined details throughout the property.

Today, the hotel remains a historic boutique destination offering a limited collection of suites designed to feel more like a residence than a traditional hotel room. Enhancements include luxurious Frette linens, Molton Brown bath amenities, Smeg appliances, and other carefully selected finishes that balance historic character with modern comfort.

Each suite offers generous space and flexibility, with select suites featuring kitchens or kitchenettes, making the hotel ideal for extended stays, repeat visitors, and travelers who value independence while spending time in Aspen.

A Select-Service Experience for Today’s Traveler

The Residence Hotel operates as a select-service boutique hotel, offering a streamlined and flexible stay experience. Daily housekeeping is provided to keep each suite refreshed throughout your visit, with linen changes scheduled weekly for longer stays. Guests enjoy the convenience of remote check-in, allowing for arrival at any time.

We stayed in the Ralph Lauren suite on the last weekend in September. The first thing we noticed was that the room is much larger than the picture let on. The rooms are beautifully decorated and have vaulted ceilings. Everything was in great condition. Upon arrival we were greeted by name. Although all the parking around the hotel is metered, the staff will help you park for 15 minutes while you unload. They then will give you a street parking pass to park for free in the residential neighborhood a short walk away. Overall, we loved our stay and would happily come back. You cannot get a better location in Aspen or a hotel with more charm and character.

Absolute gem located in the heart of downtown Aspen! This hotel has SOUL! This place is incredible. Small, boutique hotel in the perfect location (steps away from all restaurants, shops, and the gondola), the rooms are HUGE and very clean, furnished to perfection with beautiful antiques. All rooms have kitchens, a huge plus for traveling so you don't have to eat out every meal! Friendly staff and maid service. I highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to return!

We found this treasure in the heart of Aspen in 2013 and have returned many times since. We've stayed in several different rooms and each have their own special personality...it would be hard to choose a favorite. If you're looking for a cozy mountain retreat in the perfect location, The Residence Hotel will not disappoint!

Always one of the best places to book. Great ambience and literally steps from my favorite nightclub and restaurants. The room and service were superb. Just cozy and elegance wrapped into one great weekend for us. This is not our first stay and I'm still impressed by the owner and the Residence.
